This role may stretch even a fairly seasoned Accountant, with several years’ experience. 

 

It is not a graduate position. 

 

Although senior in the organisation, you will remain actively in tune with the day-to-day operational requirements and cash flow, and you will lead discussions with a forward focus.

 

For non-financial colleagues, you will break complex data into practical components that will help them to ensure the best return on investment in the areas that they have responsibility for or influence over.

 

You will mentor, support and inspire a small admin team to perform at their best and you will train them to see their contribution in the bigger picture.

Duties 

A full position description will be made available to shortlisted applicants at interview.  However, in summary, the following are included.

 

Reporting to the CFO and company directors, the role will broadly encompass:

 

  • Total ownership of the accounting function

  • Mentoring and leadership of a small – yet effective – accounts & admin team

  • Managing daily, weekly and monthly cash flow movements

  • Regular reporting – complete with insightful assessment of the company’s current performance and recommendations relating to forecasts, business trends and growth, as is supported by this analysis

  • Ensuring that all of the company’s statutory obligations are met on time

  • Assisting non-financial managers to interpret financial data and to use it to make sensible operational and purchasing decisions

  • Managing overseas purchases and payment

  • Responsible for acquisitions and disposal of assets

  • Ensuring appropriate and comprehensive insurances are in place, along with oversight of all claims

  • Creating an environment of accountability, whilst equipping your team to perform well in their roles

  • Hands-on assistance when required to ensure the accurate input of time-vital data

  • Accurate processing of payments and wages

  • Phoning of debtors to ensure their prompt payment

  • Oversight of the weekly payroll for over 200 employees

  • Quality checking of the functions you oversee

 

What you need to have 

  • This is a role that is critical to all in the senior management team – ensuring that they are informed accurately and regularly on the finances of the company – overall and in detail. 

     

    Therefore, you need to be attentive to detail and be commercially astute in understanding the company’s day-to-day position and what is required to keep it strong. 

     

    To do this effectively, you will need to have:

     

  • Experience making sound recommendations that are supported by accurate and up-to-date reporting and analysis (even at daily intervals)

  • The ability to substantiate your recommendations and to hold the line when necessary in discussion with others whose views may differ

  • Experience gained in the construction industry preferred, so you will be familiar with retentions and the necessity to maintain a tight rein on cash flow and the timely provision of accurate reporting

  • Clear spoken and written communication, with the desire and ability to ensure that non-financial team members are equipped both with quality information and the ability to interpret and use it effectively in their area of operations

  • The ability to lead a team to perform at their best, by the provision of clear direction, support and mentoring

  • No airs and graces – along with the team reporting to you, you may be involved in the day-to-day data entry of creditors, debtors or payroll if required to meet deadlines

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Superior computer literacy

  • Advanced Excel

  • A genuine interest in – and ability to contribute to the success of – your employer’s business

  • Our client employer uses NetSuite

  • Advanced MS Excel

 

Hours of work 

  • Full-time hours

  • Monday to Friday

 

Remuneration 

  • Circa $110,000 +

  • As per experience
