Assistant Accountant
Our client employer is a market leading producer of chook pellets, horse, cow, goat and pig feed – and more. They support our valuable agricultural industry and provide feed to many lifestyle property owners with outdoor pets.
A bit of background
This role offers a work environment that has pretty much zero corporate stuffiness. Yet the business is sound and growing, with separate entities that include their retail, manufacturing and freight divisions.
This is a workplace where you can go in and just be yourself – and where the senior management are nearby and ready to hear your ideas.
The manufacturing plant produces a quality product for the agricultural sector. So, this has meant that even in lockdowns their business kept pumping – providing some continued sense of normality and income to their team.
In an ever-changing market, and with increasing regulation impacting their sector, they are forward focussed and continue to improve in their processes and delivery.
Part of that outlook has led to the creation of this role, which will report to the team’s CFO. Along with an Accounts Manager, the three of you will all work quite closely.
Duties
Some accounting roles promise variety – yet don’t have the aspects of manufacturing and costing that can really expand an Assistant Accountant’s day-to-day capabilities.
There is very little that this role doesn’t touch on.
For example:
Daily production analysis and reporting
Reconciliations of manufactured stock
Reporting of raw product usage
Product costing analysis
Collating inventory stocktake data
GST, provisional tax and employee deductions
PNL
General financial reporting and admin
Hours of work
This role is full-time, 40-hours per week (Monday to Friday)
What you need to have
If you haven’t worked in a manufacturing business, that’s okay. The company’s accounting team is led by a very hands-on CFO, who is keen to share their knowledge.
It is possible that they will put more weight on your readiness to learn and contribute to a friendly team atmosphere – than in you having every skill on Day One that the role requires.
If you would like to be considered, it would be great if you have the following:
A friendly, helpful personality
Competent MS Excel – perhaps around intermediate level
A solid grounding in core accounting functions – such as GL, accounts payable and receivable, statutory returns and PNL – with the aptitude to grow what you know
Product costing or manufacturing may be an advantage. However, as noted above, your outlook and readiness to pitch in with a team spirit might win them over
